Earliest records trace the Sargeant lineage to the Island of Babados, where the elder Alexander Sargeant was born. He had six sons on the island of Nevis, James and Alexander Jr, as well as one daughter Geraldine. The matrilineal side of the family descends from the ubiqutous (in Nevis at least)Huggins Clan.
After marrying his fiance Olive Amory at the Fig Tree Church, James and later his brother Alexander would join the great migration, seeking opportunity in the American Northeast.Other scions of the family would find themselves in the UK and Canada.
James and Alexander Junior arrived in New Haven 19o6, along with a small group of families from the Leeward Islands that would include the Huggins, the Bakers, the Liburds the Hanleys, Parris', the Pembertons and the Gilfillians. They brought with them traditions of excellence and achievement that are manifested in a plethora of professional and cultural endeavors in American life. This blogsite, while titularly emerging from New Haven, has scions in virtually all quarters of the world. Accordingly, we proudly reserve the right to claim any distinguished Kittian or Nevisian, as family at any given time.
